Angola, Morocco, Tunisia, Kenya… While social movements advocating social, economic, and political demands emerged in several African countries in 2025, Thomas Melonio hosts Ousmane Ndiaye, journalist and author of the essay “Africa vs. Democracy: Myths, Denial and Peril” (2025).

The author reflects on the reasons behind the current disenchantment with democracy and, beyond that, on the importance of rethinking democracy on the continent. Without reducing it to a simple opposition between Africa and the West, Ousmane Ndiaye argues that it is possible to “re-Africanise” democracy, drawing on the work of African thinkers as well as democratic experiences unique to Africa.
