In partnership with Institut Français, AFD is financing cultural micro-projects in Africa with the aim of promoting social cohesion and collaboration between French and African cultural players.
Context
AFD’s 100% Social Link, part of our Strategic Orientation Plan, has helped broaden the CCI mandate and aims to promote the link between culture and development through the socio-professional integration of young people and women, the priority beneficiaries of the project.
For AFD, the Accès Culture call for projects thus represents an initial response to the challenges for cultural programs and the associated social and economic barriers.
Description
The Accès Culture project aims to finance annual and tri-annual cultural micro-projects in Africa in order to strengthen social ties by promoting cultural activities for some of the most remote communities.
These projects are led by an African CSO/local authority in partnership with a French CSO/local authority and selected via a call for proposals. They focus on cultural cooperation with activities geared towards the public while adopting a cultural mediation approach.
Accès Culture is supporting a research-action program to document the social impact of the cultural micro-projects financed. Feedback sessions on the research work have been organized at several African regional hubs in order to advocate for greater consideration of the cultural sector by public authorities and local cultural operators.
Accès Culture aims to:
- Support a high-quality cultural offering, championing the essential themes of sustainable development
- Increase the sharing of best practices, know-how and experience through collaboration between African and French cultural players
- Establish a dialogue with public authorities through the production and promotion of scientific research on cultural practices and their social impact
